Professor Sobha Sivaprasad named ‘Researcher of the Year’

Professor Sobha Sivaprasad, medical retina consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital, has been named ‘Researcher of the Year’ by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists

Sobha was recognised for her contribution to eye research at a national level. She is a principal investigator of over 30 projects at Moorfields and is conducting several multicentre clinical trials around the UK to help generate evidence, enhance clinical care and develop new therapeutic options for patients.

Commenting on the award, Sobha said: “I’m extremely grateful to the NIHR and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for this recognition. Clinical research is so important for the NHS and our extensive portfolio at Moorfields and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology is going some way to improve outcomes for patients with diseases of the retina, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.”

Sobha was recently appointed as the in-coming Editor in Chief of ‘Eye’, a scientific journal that provides ophthalmologists with information on the latest clinical and laboratory based-research.
